Every February, for just a couple of weeks, the gnarled and leafless almond trees around Pollença suddenly burst into clouds of delicate white and pink blossom. It’s a beautiful sight that visitors still come from all over the world to see!

Almond Facts
Almond trees have been growing on Mallorca for over 2,000 years. They were likely introduced by the ancient Romans and later greatly expanded by the Moors, who improved the varieties and cultivation methods. These incredibly tough trees thrive in poor rocky soil, resist strong winds, and survive long dry summers.
There are two main types: sweet almonds (the ones we eat) with white flowers, and bitter almonds with pink flowers. Bitter almonds are traditionally used to make Mallorcan liqueurs and pastries.
