For hundreds of years, local fishermen have worked these crystal-clear waters, where sunlight explodes into a rainbow of shimmering colours across the rocks and calm sea. They used small, sturdy wooden boats called llaüts — designs that have barely changed over many centuries.
Dionís loved painting the sea and the daily life of the fishermen. He would often join them in the morning from Cala Sant Vicenç, get dropped off in a hidden rocky cove with his paints and easel, and spend the whole day capturing the magical light, rocks, and trees. The fishermen would come back to collect him in the evening.
These traditional fishing scenes show a way of life once very common along Mallorca’s coast — hardworking men catching fish such as seabream, mullet, and wrasse.
