In this painting, Dionís shows a yearly tradition from Pollença. It dates all the way back to the Middle Ages — and may even be much older — and it still happens today!
Every June during the Corpus Christi celebration, two girls dress as magical Eagles with sparkling flower crowns, flapping wings, and castanets. They dance through the streets while Saint Hairy John (“Sant Joan Pelós”), the wild and hairy character, joins in, scattering flower petals as he dances.
After the procession, the dancers visit houses and are given small gifts — turning the day into one big, happy party!
